The saa is required to perform specific task based on the Underlisted Scope of Work. Background Nigeria Is Among Beneficiary Countries of The $3.5 Billion Pledged by The Government Of United States of America (USG) in L aquilla, Italy, in support of feed the future (FTF) global agricultural development and food security. This resource is specifically focused at: (A) accelerating inclusive agriculture sector growth; and (B) improving the nutritional status, especially for women and children. These aims/objectives are known to have direct linkages to sustainably reducing hunger and poverty. The FTF approach emphasizes the importance of focusing USG development assistance on key geographical locations and key agricultural value chains; it prioritizes interactions based on a theory of change that has empirical support, as well as the experience and understanding on the comparative advantage of usaid; and recognizes that strategies will be most effective if they empower women, as they create synergies between agricultural and nutrition interventions, as well as promote innovations. Agriculture remains essential to Nigeria S sustained development. Agriculture provides employment for over 70 million people and has contributed between 40-42% of gdp in the period 2006-10. The importance of agriculture cannot be overstated in terms of household income. About 80% of household income is derived from agricultural activity. Smallholder agriculture, cultivating less than 2 ha of land, accounts for 90% of the agricultural output. Over the past decade half of the new jobs in Nigeria have been in the agricultural sector. Currently only half of Nigeria S arable land is being cultivated and irrigation potential is significantly under developed. Usaid/Nigeria S ege program aims to assist the government of Nigeria to: (A) accelerate inclusive agriculture sector growth; and (B) improve nutritional status. It is designed to contribute to higher level objectives, specifically the Millennium Development Goals (MDG) to reduce hunger, poverty, and child malnutrition by half by 2015. The economic growth and environment office is in the process of preparing a feed the future strategy that will feed into the U.S. Government S Country Development Cooperation Strategy (CDCS) for Nigeria for the period 2014-2018. The ege agriculture portfolio consists of current or planned projects in the areas of agricultural production and marketing, trade, microenterprise development, agricultural policy, assistance to vulnerable households, famine and early warning and biosafety. Summary the incumbent undertakes a variety of project planning, design, implementation, and monitoring and evaluation functions. This includes the gathering, analysis and reporting of performance information related to the mission S agriculture activities. These activities are multi-dimensional, involving multiple stakeholders in the government of Nigeria, the private sector and civil society, including farmers and farmer producer/marketing organizations. Supervision the saa will report directly to the acting officer director, or a designee of the ege office, who will provide guidance, direction, and day-to-day instructions as necessary. For the most part, the mission will expect the saa to operate with a high degree of management independence leading, organizing, and directing the efforts of the related project design teams. He will be responsible for reviewing relative documents, and drafting concept notes, project descriptions and an agriculture and food security concept paper acceptable to the mission.
